How To Bunnyhop In Apex Legends | Easy Step by Step Guide

Bunnyhopping in Apex Legends is a must-have skill to have up your sleeve.  If you don’t learn it then you are putting yourself at a disadvantage.

Bunnyhopping makes you a harder target by maintaining a high movement speed for longer. Movement is the number one most important thing to master in Apex Legends if you really want to up your game.

In this step by step guide, I am going to explain exactly how to bunnyhop in Apex Legends.  There are a few steps to learn but I recommend jumping into a training lobby and learning the basics first.  So let’s do exactly that!

How To BunnyHop In Apex Legends

There are three main phases to learn to understand the bunnyhop that I will teach you below. The first is how to bunnyhop in a straight line which helps you understand the timing. The second is to incorporate the strafing to ensure you maintain your momentum.

And the third is to add the heal in so that you are getting the most out of your bunnyhop.

Lets us first sort out your settings!

Keybind Settings You Need to Bunnyhop

There are a few settings you need to configure in your keybinds to allow you to bunnyhop.  The first is crouch where you will need to ensure you are using the crouch hold and not the crouch toggle.

If you already have this set up great you can move on otherwise I recommend you replace your existing crouch toggle keybind over to the crouch hold keybind.

You probably have your jump keybind only set to space.  This can work fine however I strongly recommend you also add a second keybind for jump.  Either choose mouse up or mouse down as this allows your jump to be much more responsive.

After trying it out in the training session you will see that it makes it easier to consistently jump at the right time rather than having all the movement keybinds on one hand.

How to Bunnyhop and Heal

First, you need to understand the timing of the keybinds which will take some practice and muscle memory.

Before getting into strafing while bunnyhopping I recommend you just start the straight bunnyhop to get a feel for it.  Learn this first:

The Straight Bunnyhop

  1. Run until you are in full sprint
  2. Press and hold the crouch keybind to start a slide
  3. Immediately jump and take your finger off W (I explain below why this is needed)
  4. Keep jumping every time you land to keep your slide momentum.

This first method is how to bunnyhop in a straight line.  This is great for understanding how the movement works but you can’t bunnyhop for long using this method as you lose momentum.

The reason you take your finger off W is that as soon as you slide the game registers this as you moving forward.  You then use the strafing I’m going to explain in the next step to maintain your momentum.

The trick to bunnyhopping is the swinging of your mouse from left to right.  The ‘swing’ creates momentum allowing you continuously bunnyhop.

The Strafe Bunnyhop

  1. Run until you are in full sprint
  2. Press your hold to crouch keybind to start a slide.
  3. Use your mouse scroll wheel jump to immediately jump (take finger off W)
  4. Press the D key and swing your mouse the right.
  5. Jump when you land.
  6. Press the A key and swing your mouse to the left.
  7. Jump When you land.
  8. Keep repeating the step 4-7 to bunnyhop almost infinitely.

The third step towards bunnyhopping is adding in the heal.  This is the main reason you want to learn to bunnyhop so that you can move faster while healing or shielding.

The steps are very similar to the steps above apart from when you need to press your heal keybind.

The Strafe & Heal Bunnyhop

  1. Run until you are in full sprint.
  2. Press your hold to crouch keybind to start a slide.
  3. Use your mouse scroll wheel jump to immediately jump (take finger off W).
  4. As soon as you take your finger off W press your heal keybind
  5. Press the D key and swing your mouse the right.
  6. Jump when you land.
  7. Press the A key and swing your mouse to the left.
  8. Jump When you land.
  9. Keep repeating the step 4-7 to bunnyhop almost infinitely.

The key to adding in the heal is the timing.  You need to heal as soon as you take your finger off of W.

This means you will land and start healing but then you immediately jump again and start the bunnyhop allowing you to bunnyhop away to safety!

Why Bunnyhop?  Benefits of Bunnyhopping In Apex Legends

Bunnyhopping allows you to move unpredictably which is a core strength to have in Apex Legends since the faster and more agile you are the harder you are to hit.

The main reason you want to learn to bunnyhop is to allow you to move faster while healing.  By bunnyhopping during your heal animation, you are more mobile giving you time to get to cover.

The heal is usually really slow if you use it normally making you a really easy target to hit. Incorporate your bunnyhop and you will be a nightmare to track.

Final Word

Hopefully, you have found this how-to guide helpful. Bunnyhopping in Apex Legends is one of the best skills to have up your sleeve if you want to be competitive.
