How To Fix Fortnite Error Code 20006 – Simple Guide

Most error codes tend to have some unknown explanation behind them but Error Code 20006 is actually an error that pops up almost exclusively due to a missing or damaged EasyAntiCheat service program inside your Fortnite game files.

The EasyAntiCheat service verifies that you are not entering Fortnite with third party software designed for cheating or other banned offenses.

This file can sometimes break and cause the 20006 error to appear along with the code “(Cannot create service(StartService failed: 193))”. It’s also possible that other files in your Fortnite folder could be corrupted and are therefore causing the EasyAntiCheat service to bug out, giving you the 20006 error.

Solution 1:  Repairing the EasyAntiCheat Service

As mentioned, the EasyAntiCheat software might be bugged and the easiest way to confirm whether or not the service is having trouble with Fortnite is to run it manually from the game folder.

  1. Open the Fortnite game installation folder on your computer: E.g “B:\Games\Fortnite\FortniteGame”
  2. Navigate to Fortnitegame >> Binaries >> Win64 (or Win32 if your running 32bit) >> EastAntiCheat
  3. Open a file called EasyAntiCheat_setup.exe file by running the file as administrator
  4. Inside the window that pops up select Fortnite from the dropdown list and click repair
  5. Now check if the 20006 error still appears when opening Fortnite

Solution 2:  Verifying Game Files

There is also the possibility that one or more game files besides the EasyAntiCheat Service is corrupted which may be disrupting the service from functioning properly upon startup.

  1. Enter the Epic Games Launcher
  2. Navigate to the your library
  3. Click the ‘‘ icon next to the launch button
  4. Select “Verify” from the menu that appears
  5. Wait for the process to complete then restart your computer
  6. Relaunch Fortnite and check for the error

Solution 3:  Rename the EasyAntiCheat Driver

Another clever trick to work around this error can be renaming the EasyAntiCheat driver which is located in your system32 files. By renaming this driver the game will automatically re-download the required file with the latest updates in case the EasyAntiCheat repair still left the file corrupted.

  1. Turn on your hidden files option in Windows File Explorer window
  2. Navigate to C: >> Windows >>  System32
  3. Locate the EasyAntiCheat.sys file and rename it
  4. Relaunch Fortnite and check for the error

I have to warn you here, editing or removing system32 files is a risky solution as it can corrupt your computer and cause fatal system errors. So use this trick with caution and preferably as a last resort.

Final Words

If the error still appears, perhaps there is  a certain program running on your computer that is denying the game files or putting them in quarantine so be sure to check for programs like anti-virus software that’s running a scan, a firewall blocking your software, or any third party software.

If the error still persists you can always re-install the game, also check out the Fortnite social media forums or communities for solutions.
